Survey of Bat Diversity across Karnataka

The state of Karnataka in India has diverse landscapes and habitats with more than 38 types of forests, like rain forests, shola forests, dry deciduous forests, scrub forests, mangrove forests, myristica swamps, rocky outcrops, laterite plateaus, dry grasslands, high altitude grasslands, etc.

These diverse landscapes host many species of bats. New records of species and extended distribution are being found every year. There are many areas across the state where no survey has been carried out so far by any bat biologist. Through this project we aim to carry out a detailed survey across all districts covering diverse habitats to assess and identify the species distribution.
